Today's review is inspired by one of Fifth Harmony's lyrics titled - "Don't say you love me"
Fifth Harmony is has been a renowned musical group consisting of five beautiful ladies often shortened to 5H. It was an American girl group based in Miami, composed of Ally Brooke, Normani, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and previously Camila Cabello until she departed from the group in December 2016. "Don't Say You Love Me" is a song recorded by American girl group Fifth Harmony for their self-titled third studio album (2017). Lyrically, it is a melancholic torch song that finds the group asking a "close but inconsistent" lover for an honest relationship.

As one of my colleagues said; “the world is a cycle of hurt people” I tended to agree with him completely when we took up a discussion that involved a young lady who had to bite a bitter piece of love and couldn’t swallow it anymore as the venom got her screwed. She was one hurt away from being wicked and only Mother Nature can tell what would become of such a lady if she walks into another relationship with old wounds.
If I'm asked, I'd say that it is unkind to see people promise their partners the sort of affection they lack the willingness and honesty to sustain. Hence, they end up inflicting emotional injuries on one another in a guile manner.
While listening to “Don’t say you love me” by Fifth Harmony, I took time to immerse my mind and heart in the lyrics even though I almost became carried away by the soothing rhythm. Yet I managed to reach the depth of the message flowing from every calibrating riff of the singers.
And here’s what I realized foremost about the song; the lyrics speak about a relationship where one person is feeling neglected and unsatisfied with the way their partner is treating them. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of honesty, consistency, and genuine love in a relationship.
I also realized how emotionally mindful the ladies were, to demand absolute sincerity and commitment from the men that wish to love them.
Although there is a rather frequent scenario that is common among young people of our time. And that is the entitlement mindset of some folks in love relationships. You can imagine the expectation of one partner to play all the vital roles while the other person stays at the receiving end, sabing all the good vibes. Wrong moves!
Looking right into the song selected for today's review,
the opening lines, "Don't say you miss me when you don't call, And don't say you're hurting without the scars," convey a sense of frustration with empty words and false expressions of emotion. In this case, the dames want their partners to back up their words with actions and genuine feelings.
The lyrics also touch upon the issue of inconsistency in the relationship: "We've been close, but inconsistent, You hold my heart at a safer distance." The singers acknowledge that although they may have had moments of closeness, there is a lack of stability and emotional intimacy.
The phrase "I need a little bit more" is repeated throughout the song, highlighting the writer's desire for a deeper connection and commitment from their partner. They express their patience and willingness to wait, but at the same time, they need their partner to step up and provide the love and attention they deserve.
A similar message is also shared in one of Chike’s Afrobeats tunes - “If You No Love Me”
If you no love me
Make you no talk say you love me oh
The chorus emphasizes the need for honesty and sincerity: "Don't say you love me unless you do unless you do." The writer wants their partner to only express love if they truly mean it, highlighting the importance of authenticity in a relationship.
In the second verse, the frustration continues as the ladies express their disappointment with the lack of progress in the relationship. They mention waiting for weeks and feeling like something is missing, even when they try to put on a brave face.
In a brief, "Don't Say You Love Me" by Fifth Harmony explores the themes of honesty, consistency, and the longing for a deeper emotional connection in a relationship. The lyrics capture the frustrations and desires of someone who wants their partner to be genuine and committed.
I hope that soon enough a kind-hearted soul like you will find you so that you both can share all the happy energies you never experienced or were deprived of in your previous relationship. Good luck!
A Call To Mind
Watch out for people who don’t know how to love or commit to themselves in all honesty. They are the most cause of relationship traumas and problems.
