A long-time friend of mine called me two weeks ago to complain about how the different phases of his life have served him all opposites of his best expectations. He told me how screwed his life has been and was contemplating shorting down everything, never to show up again. While he was being all emotional and getting my mind blurred from clear thoughts, I began thinking about what next. Thank goodness, I managed to get over the pain of his bruises. Though not knowing exactly what I could do to conflict his plans of giving up, somehow a thought came around and I decided to send him an email titled " Your Battles Are Tough But You're Unstoppable."
Today I'm reviewing Sia's energetic lyric –titled "Unstoppable"
This song she released in 2016 was very instrumental in the email I sent to address my friend's dilemma. Even now, I've drawn a lot of inspiration from it and I'll be sharing them with you. Moreover, I'm writing this to you personally because I've witnessed some of the demons you had to fight to survive this day.

About Sia
Sia Kate Isobelle Furler is an Australian singer and songwriter who by her voice is often described as "deep, playful, and powerful." Born and raised in Adelaide, she started her career as a singer in the acid jazz band Crisp in the mid–1990s. She attracted wider notice after her fourth and fifth studio albums, Some People Have Real Problem and We Are Born. Uncomfortable with her growing fame, Sia took a hiatus from performing and focused on songwriting for other artists, producing successful collaborations.
About the Song
Unstoppable is an energetic song, one that makes you powerful and helps you come out of misery by believing in yourself.
I'm unstoppable
I'm a Porsche with no brakes
I'm invincible
Yeah, I win every single game
I'm so powerful
I don't need batteries to play
I'm so confident, yeah, I'm unstoppable today
Looking at those lyrics up there, you can't agree less that this song is phenomenal. If you think about it clearly, it's so captivating and as I soaked myself in the song to get every message passed in misleading words, I realized that Sia is ironically telling the awful experiences you'll likely face in this cosmos, yet you have to wear hard skin and fool around.
The lyrics of the chorus are somehow confusing, yet they appear notably interesting, which I so love. It's like the perfect vibes that propel you; Hey! Get-ya-asse-outta-bed-and-achieve-ish sort of.
I understand that you have all valid excuses but none is making sense now because you're stocked in that wretched story of your life and the truth is, no God damn soul is interested in your crap. So you've got to drag yourself up, turn a new page and rewrite your story. There's no convenience when you're striving to be invincible.
If you observe "Unstoppable" circumspectly, you'll see that the song is rather self-elevating, weaved through entirely with denial. Like the persona is trying to convince herself as well as anyone else that all these lies are true, you can choose to deny it or admit same. But truth is, you've got to repeat this mantra (I'm unstoppable) for your good. And understand that what doesn't break you is meant to strengthen you.
Assuredly, whatever battle you're fighting is tough, if not it would be no battle in the first place and you have every right to end the battle but not unless you win. However, the big deal is, if the fight didn't claim your life, you should know that you're about to end the fight in victory. So don't breathe your last when the last breath is still holding on to you. As an anonymous said, "Every day we are on a wrecking ball, headed for disaster, smashing into walls, into walls without mercy. We are not okay. And yet, every day we have made it to the next day, somehow miraculously, we are winning every single game even as we fail."
Every verse reveals the irony of the singer, like the one you see here.
All smiles
I know what it takes to fool this town
I'll do it till the sun goes down
And all through the nighttime
We probably all know how to act and that's exactly what this verse is saying. It is real acting. Either you fake reality in your actions or you simply act reality as fake. Whatever, you can't deny that you know how to hide your demons, swallow your tongue and fuse into the crowd. The crowd is the town and you just know how to fool it! It is simply our half nature. More like how easy it is to please people, Sia dropped the hint –
"I'll tell you what you want to hear
Leave my sunglasses on while I shed a tear
It's never the right time
I can tell that many times you're asked how you're doing, your reply is always in the affirmative. I'm not different either so is very easy to guess that right. I understand that the space you belong to is always expecting the best from you, so much that your default setting is programmed to satisfy the expectations of your pals even when you're not satisfied.
While your heart may be severely burning with hurts, your face is forcefully admitting that all is okay. So you see? It's as easy as taking a glass of water to fool this town and tell people what they want to hear while you continue dying one day at a time. Damn! That feels good to deal with because nobody really cares to hear the complex side of your story. It's not even enough that you have to be strong all by yourself, sometimes you just have to do as the writer's words say.
Break down, only alone
I will cry out now
You'll never see what's hiding out
Hiding out deep down
This is so true, we all need a suitable time to break down alone but definitely not in the open. All day, all night, you must be unstoppable. Wait for the right time to break, and it never comes. This is acting.
"I know I've heard that to let your feelings show
Is the only way to make friendships grow
But I'm too afraid"
Often you'll hear psychological hobbyists tell you - "oh talk to a friend. You need someone to share your feelings with" - Lol. Forget that pun but does anyone else knows how much your distress scares people away? I guess life is a mystery because you can't just handle it alone without involving people.
Sia tells her story and it feels so relatable.
"I'll put my armor on, show you all how strong I am"
To everyone else, this armor that we wear is just skin. Acting. You must continue to walk around like you have an idea of what the hell is going on with your life. You have to go to school or go to work and say hi to people, and fool the whole town.
This song is all-encompassing, I must say. I've listened to it repeatedly and assimilated the lyrics carefully. Sia is such a creative writer and she's so realistic about her soul-energetic piece. I had to absorb every chunk of it because I am so confident that I'm unstoppable today.
To the now, you don't need batteries to (press) play, you are the game and you're the hero in the play. This is more than acting. And to avoid being drained by some crazy experiences of your life, you have to put your armor on. And trust me you have to, always! Because you're unstoppable!
A Call To Mind
Not always will you find people who can relate to the core of your distress, many times you'll have to wear your hard skin and defeat every odds to break down in order to emerge a hero in your game.
